My first official weekend in Montana was filled with nasty weather, but tons of fun!
After getting off work early on Friday afternoon, I took a walk downtown to get some fresh air and do some exploring (the very last of the good weather). I headed back home at around 4:30 and ended up falling asleep until almost 6:00! It was a much needed nap that has kept me going all weekend.
I mentioned in a previous post some friends that we went hiking with last week. Well, after this weekend, I can assure you that they will be regular characters in my summer adventures, so I'll just formally introduce them now:
Michael--Tara's friend from high school who lives in a house a little ways from campus
Eric--Michael's friend (they work together on campus this summer)
Pearl--Eric and Michael's friend/coworker
On Friday night, Tara, Michael, Eric, and I all went to Montana Ale Works for some after dinner bonding. When we had finished up there, we headed over to The Zebra to wish Pearl a happy birthday. Apparently, Pearl is a regular at the Zebra because when we got there and asked for Pearl, everyone knew exactly who we were talking about and started striking up conversations with us just because we knew Pearl! It was great fun and there was some live music.
On Saturday, Tara and I slept in and then took our laundry out to Michael's house. While we were there, it was nice to sit on a couch in a living room and watch TV (oh, the luxuries of living off campus...). Once our laundry was finished, Tara and I came back to our rooms to get a few things done before heading out to the Museum of the Rockies. While we were getting ready to leave, I noticed that the rain was starting to look a little bit thicker and bigger than normal. Before I knew it, it was full on snowing! I ran around like crazy taking pictures and calling my family about this crazy snow in June!! Good thing we had planned to spend the afternoon at the museum...because it was COLD.
It turns out that a pass to the museum is good for 2 days, so Tara and I saw the last planitarium show of the day and looked through half of the exhibits and decided to come back the next day to see the rest of the shows and finish up the exhibits. When we left the museum, we headed back over to Michael's. After hanging out for a little bit and making a delicious dinner of nachos and veggies we went to the Bozeman hotsprings for a surprisingly popular night of swimming. I had never experienced a hotsprings before...so that was pretty interesting. There were indoor and outdoor pools/hot tubs to enjoy. There was also a really cold tub that I was never brave enough to get in completely (although, Tara, Eric, and Michael all sat in it for quite some time...eeek!). Finally, there was a sauna and a steam room that we also spent some time in. After the hotsprings, we were all pretty tired so we just watched some Iron Chef at Michael's and then Tara and I headed back to our rooms.
Today, we slept in AGAIN and headed back to the Museum of the Rockies for the last of the exhibits and 2 more planitarium shows. This was such a fun way to spend a cold and somewhat rainy Sunday morning/afternoon. The last show of the day was the best because it dealt with all the constellations and the zodiac signs, etc. Since we had walked to the museum, Tara and I stopped at a cafe/coffee shop on the way back for a late lunch.
It has been a full, but relaxing weekend with many new things for me to see! Tomorrow starts week 2 of the internship, and I am looking forward to all that Paul has planned for us!
