Thursday and Friday

Picking up where I left off on Wednesday, I will address the cereal samples. They arrived on Thursday like we expected. Once we brought them down to the office, we had to taste them (oh darn). We decided that we like them enough to add them to our big tasting that we're going to do with all of the kitchen managers in the upcoming weeks. The rest of Thursday was a lot of Computrition. I *hope* that we finally finished entering all of the items and recipes for concessions so that Ron can have all the information that he will need for the fall. We also started entering the fall menus into Computrition. This is a tedious task because any mistake can affect a lot of people and can end up being pretty expensive for the university. We will be working on entering these menus for quite some time. On Thursday evening, Tara and I went on a really long walk and then had a picnic at a picnic table that we found during our walk. After that, we headed out to Michael's house to do a little laundry. We also took our massive bag of popcorn to his place and made some popcorn balls; however, it looks like we barely took any out of the bag. It's gonna be a tough job to finish all that popcorn, but I think we can do it :)

Friday was a pretty fun day. We did a bit of work in Computrition, but Rick (executive chef to MSU and one of the main memebers of Rocky Mountain Concessions) met Paul, Tara, and me to talk about our needs for the county fair concession project. This meeting invovled looking over the menu, changing anything that needed to be changed from the last time Rocky Mountain Concessions did an event, and deciding what supplies Paul and Rick already had and what they needed. It took almost 2 hours to get through all of the information, but it was a good way to see just one part of the massive amounts of work that go into a project like summer fair concessions. Once the meeting was over, Paul, Tara, and I picked up Jeff (bakery manager) to go to lunch at Buffalo Bump Pizza to, surprisingly, check out the cookies that they make there. After eating delicious baked subs, we all tried a different cookie and talked with Jeff about the possibility of making something simliar for the MSU bakery. We also discussed the apple project that Tara has been taking charge of. After Buffalo Bump, we revisited the concession stand project and headed to Costco to do some price comparison. We split up our list into 3 parts and headed up and down aisle to note any product or pricing changes from the last time Paul purchased for Rocky Mountain Concessions. He purchases most of his supplies from a larger foodservice distributor, but is a smart shopper and wants to get the absolute best deal so that he can maximize his profits (can't blame him).

I'm about to head out to Billings for Tara's cousin's football game and then to Chico for the night with her family. There will be more exciting reads and (hopefully) some good pictures for your reading a viewing pleasures up tomorrow night!!
