sunday night hike and office shenanigans

Before I start talking about the awesome fun that we had today at work, I must let you know about the awesome night hike that we took last night! After taking leftover MSU foodservice lasagna AND a rather large 10-in-1 jigsaw puzzle to Michael and Eric, the 4 of us decided to go on a night hike to see the sunset. It was kinda cold, but definitely worth it! (see photos--left: michael, tara, and eric; below--awesome swirly sky)

...moving on to today! When we got to the office, we checked up on our emails and such that had accumulated from the weekend. Tara had gotten some good feedback from the NACUFS discussion list regarding the dish purchasing that we are looking into. Once we had gotten on track for the day, Paul announced that Ron (the concessions guy) was going to come down to go through Computrition with us (remember, the MSU food database...). While Paul, Tara, and I were discussing the conessions issues, Ron showed up and we got to work. During Ron's visit, we decided that we needed to do a little popcorn experiment. We were SUPPOSED to be finding the weight of all the ingredients (so, kernels, oil, flavoring) and then popping it all to get the yield and to figure out how many popcorn tubs we could fill from one batch. Paul had also mentioned something about measuring the popcorn in a gallon measure...but Tara and I FAILED TO ASK QUESTIONS TO BE CLEAR ON THE PROJECT, so 3 hours later when we got done hanging out with Ron and cooking a ton of popcorn, we had done the project wrong. Thankfully, we kept most of the popcorn and were able to fix our mistake. We definitely thought that we had learned the difference between weight and volume, and how that fits into the Computrition portioning and pricing system...but we were wrong. Paul was very patient with us and ended up laughing about it with us. We finally got the correct measurements and were able to enter everything into the system as planned.
This is just to give you a visual of why none of us could keep a straight face all day. This is a lot of popcorn. It was a good comedic relief when Tara and I were misbehaving/not understanding simple science and math. (And no, I did not wear that to work. We dress very professionally, this is after working out).

SPEAKING of working out, I have decided to let miss Concordia track star Tara put me through her track/xc lifting schedule for the summer. I'm also running whenever she runs...just not at her pace and usually for not as long. Today was day #1 of lifting weights and I can only feel my shoulders and my fingers...not much in between. More updates on that later. Maybe I'll take pictures of my biceps once a week so that you can see the progression of my muscles. MAYBE.

Apparently I'm missing a juicy episode of the bacelorette so I'm going to go take advantage of Tara's TV!
