This week has been so crazy! Tara and I were lucky enough to get some hands on foodservice experience with Paul's "little" hobby, Rocky Mountain Concessions. If you've read my previous posts, you will remember me talking about some of the prep work that we had done for the summer fair. Well, said summer fair just happened. The entire crew worked basically nonstop from Monday afternoon until today at about 7:00 PM.
It was quite an experience to get out of the office and follow through with all of the plans that we had been making for this week. When Paul asked us what kinds of foodservice positions we had held before, I told him that I did not have much experience with the cooking side of things and that I wanted to give it a try. He made that happen for me and I loved it! By the middle of the first morning, I had learned how to make almost everything on our menu (which is quite extensive for a concession stand!). By today, I had prepared almost all of the menu items over and over, waited on an uncountable number of customers, and taken a spin through the Rocky Mountain Ice Cream "satellite" business.
This week is yet another reason that MSU is a great place to be for a NACUFS internship. Not only did we get out of the office for a week to do something a little bit different, we were able to see part of the behind the scenes work that it takes to run a business like this. I know that we only got to see a small amount of the prep work that was put into this, but it was a great learning experience to see how much we did.
It is hard to believe that I only have 1 week left in Montana, but when I look back on the past 7, I have a lot of irreplacable memories and lessons learned about myself and what I want for my future. This week, Tara and I will be tying up the loose ends from our big projects, as well as tackling a few more. I promise that I will have more time to update this week since we'll be in the office!
